Psalm 22: A Brief Analysis
By Wayne Jackson | Christian Courier
There is no better way to start your day than to meditate upon the grace of God shown at Calvary.
Psalm 22 is powerful because of its messianic message about Christ and His sacrifice.
1. Christ’s Rejection by God (1–5)
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
God allowed Jesus to suffer fully to fulfill justice and extend mercy.
2. Christ’s Rejection by Man (6–13)
Jesus was mocked, despised, and abused, yet trusted in the Father.
3. Christ’s Ordeal at Calvary (14–18)
Describes crucifixion: bones out of joint, thirst, pierced hands and feet.
Soldiers gambled for His garments.
4. Christ’s Prayer for Deliverance (19–21)
Jesus cries to God for help and is heard.
5. Christ’s Thanksgiving for Victory (22–31)
God did not abandon Him—this points to the resurrection.
Conclusion
People from all nations are called to turn to God and worship Him.
His plan will never fail.
From generation to generation, let the message of salvation go forth.
