9/3,10,17, & 24: Ladies’ Bible Class meets at the building at 1:00 p.m. We are studying the book of Genesis.
9/13: Second Sunday singing and fellowship following evening Bible class. Please bring a dish to share.
9/19: All Day Youth in Action from 9:30 am – 7:30 pm. This will be held at Ball Road Church of Christ, 1590 W. Ball Rd, Anaheim, CA 92802.
9/19: Ladies’ Day at Upland Church of Christ is scheduled for September 19th. The event, titled “At His Feet & In His Service,” will feature lessons from Mary and Martha as recorded in Luke 10:38-42. From 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., there will be a welcome and morning refreshments session. Our brother Robert has been delivering an exceptional series of lessons from John 15. I posed a question about “The Fruit” to AI. Here is the response with scripture references.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

What Exactly Is the Fruit?
Jesus does not leave us guessing. The fruit that flows from abiding is the visible, practical evidence that His life is flowing through us. It is not something we manufacture by sheer willpower or human effort. It is the natural overflow of His life in the branch.
First, the fruit is Christlike character—a transformed life that reflects Jesus. This includes the qualities the Spirit produces: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). It is the “peaceful fruit of righteousness” that comes through the Father’s pruning and discipline (Hebrews 12:10–11). When we abide, the life of the Vine begins to shape our attitudes, reactions, and daily conduct so that others can see Jesus in us.
Second, the fruit is obedience to Jesus’ commandments and abiding in His love. “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love” (John 15:10). A branch that remains connected does not live independently; it lives in glad submission to the Vine. Obedience is not the root of our relationship with Christ—it is the fruit of it.
Third, the fruit is love for one another. Immediately after speaking of abiding and fruit-bearing, Jesus commands, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:12–13). Later He repeats, “These things I command you, so that you will love one another” (John 15:17). Mutual, self-sacrificing love is a primary mark of true discipleship and a clear expression of the fruit that remains.
Fourth, the fruit includes full joy and effective prayer. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11). And “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7). When His word shapes our desires, our prayers align with His will, and joy—His own joy—fills us.
Finally, the fruit is good works and a lasting witness that glorifies God. “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples” (John 15:8). Jesus chose and appointed His followers “that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide” (John 15:16). This includes productive Christian living, acts of service, and helping others come to know and obey the gospel so that the fruit continues and multiplies.
In every case, the fruit is visible. It can be seen in our lives. It is not hidden. Claiming to be a branch means nothing if there is no fruit. The absence of fruit signals a problem with the connection. The presence of increasing fruit—“fruit… more fruit… much fruit”—proves that we are truly joined to the Vine and brings glory to the Father.
